Alexis Arzimanoglou currently serves as the Director of the Epilepsy and Neurophysiology Unit of the Child Neurology Dpt. at the San Juan de Dios Barcelona Children's Hospital in Spain.
In the past he served as President of the French Chapter of the ILAE and later as Chair of the Scientific Committee of the European Pediatric Neurology Society (EPNS). He received the ILAE Ambassador for Epilepsy (2007), the EPNS Aicardi Award for excellence in pediatric neurology (2017) and the ILAE European Epilepsy Education Award (2022).
In addition, he coordinates, since 2019, the European Reference Network for Rare and Complex Epilepsies (ERN EpiCARE) and is an elected member of the European Executive Board of the International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE). Between 2008 and 2023, he was the Director of the Epilepsy, Sleep, and Pediatric Neurophysiology Department at the University Hospitals of Lyon, France.
Professor Arzimanoglou is Editor-in-Chief Emeritus of the ILAE educational journal Epileptic Disorders, a journal he contributed to creating and served it as Editor-in-Chief for more than 20 years, and past Associate Editor of the European Journal of Pediatric Neurology. He has authored/co-authored seven books and published over four 200 peer reviewed articles mainly in the fields of child neurology and childhood epilepsies. He co-edited and contributed to the latest edition (4th) of "Aicardi's Diseases of the Nervous System in Childhood" (McKeith Press), a premier reference textbook for many. Through his extensive clinical and research expertise, Alexis Arzimanoglou continues contributing to significant advancements in the understanding and treatment of epilepsy.
